The competition will be held from 16.30 on Friday 16 January to 15.00 on Sunday 18 January 2015 at the City offices of Berwin Leighton Paisner, who have kindly made their premises available for the weekend event. Teams from law schools, universities, Inns of Court and those on other training programmes will compete as advocates in a real-time commercial arbitration involving both submissions and evidence from live factual and expert witnesses. Teams of between 2 and 4 people, with optional coach, will be allotted roles in the case, which will culminate with the delivery of an award by the 3-person Tribunal and argument on costs.
Full paperwork for the arbitration will be sent out in the first week of January followed by the assignments allotted to each team. Their task will be to prepare for their own presentation at the appropriate time during the hearing, and to react to the presentations by the opposing side. Delegates will this have the opportunity to practice advocacy skills and the exanimation of witnesses before the distinguished arbitral tribunal. Prizes will be awarded for best team and best individual advocate as voted by delegates. As with the previous Mediation Skills Competitions, there will also be a social programme for delegates and officials.
Please send expressions of interest with the completed Entry Form to the Clerk to the Company, Elinor Pritchard at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We look forward to welcoming you and in January; and please feel free to pass this information on to colleagues who may also be interested in the event.
